Find answers to frequently asked questions about Fukuoka Open Top Bus
Advance reservation is recommended. Seats fill up quickly on weekends and holidays. Walk-up tickets are available if seats remain, but online booking is the most reliable option.
There are three ways to book:
- Online (Recommended): Book 24/7 at "Highway Bus dot com." Credit card payment only.
- By Phone: Kyushu Highway Bus Reservation Center (092-734-2727), 8:00–19:00
- Walk-up: Purchase at the ticket counter or machine at Tenjin Highway Bus Terminal up to 10 minutes before departure
Reservations open at 8:00 AM, one month before your travel date.
- Online booking: Credit card only (advance payment within 3 days of booking; same-day bookings require immediate payment)
- Counter/machine: Credit card or cash
- Dazaifu Course (Hakata/Tenjin-bound) paying at Dazaifu: Credit card or QR code payment only (no cash)
- Online booking: Changes can be made online up to 30 minutes before departure (subject to availability). Please prepare a new e-ticket after changes.
- Phone booking: Changes can be made up to 30 minutes before departure on the day.
Online booking refunds can be processed on the website up to 30 minutes before departure (¥110 handling fee). Tickets become invalid after departure time and cannot be changed or refunded.

Generally, the bus operates even in rainy weather. Raincoats are provided, and the bus runs with the roof open.
Depending on weather conditions, the bus may operate with the roof closed.

If the service is cancelled by our decision, a full refund will be issued with no handling fee.
Services may be rerouted or suspended due to traffic restrictions from events or vehicle maintenance.
The following are prohibited:
- Moving between seats while the bus is in motion
- Using umbrellas or parasols (upper deck)
- Extending hands or head outside the bus or touching trees
- Eating, drinking (except lidded beverages), and smoking
- Bringing pets on board
Please follow crew instructions at all times.
Yes. Seatbelts must be worn at all times during the ride. Children must also have their own seat with a seatbelt fastened. Passengers unable to wear a seatbelt may be denied boarding.
Each course has designated drop-off bus stops. As the bus approaches a stop, the Bus Announcer will ask if anyone wishes to get off.
No. There are no restrooms on board and no restroom stops during the tour. Please use the restroom before boarding.
Food is not allowed. Lidded beverages (such as water bottles) are permitted. Alcoholic drinks are prohibited.
Smoking is prohibited on all seats.
- Seaside Momochi Course (approx. 60 min): PayPay Dome, Fukuoka Tower, Seaside Momochi, Ohori Park, Keyaki-dori
- Dazaifu Course (approx. 60 min): Near Fukuoka Airport, Dazaifu Government Ruins, Mizuki Ruins, Hakata Port Tower (Dazaifu-bound), Hakata Station (Hakata/Tenjin-bound)
- Fukuoka Kirameki (Night View) Course (approx. 80 min): Fukuoka Tower, Nakasu, Hakata Station, city expressway night views

The Dazaifu Course is a one-way route operating in both directions: "Tenjin → Dazaifu" and "Dazaifu → Hakata/Tenjin." The departure and arrival points are different, so please check the direction when booking.
The child fare (¥1,000) applies to elementary school age and under.
No. The child fare (¥1,000) applies. Seatbelt use is mandatory.
Strollers cannot be brought on the bus.
Yes. Every child must have their own seat with a seatbelt fastened. Holding children on your lap and bringing child seats are both prohibited. Boarding may be refused if a seatbelt cannot be worn.
Wheelchair users should make a reservation by phone or at the counter at least 1 hour before departure.

*For the Dazaifu Course (Dazaifu → Hakata/Tenjin direction), the meeting point is Nishitetsu Dazaifu Station.
Please arrive at the bus stop at least 10 minutes before departure.
- Subway: Approx. 7-min walk from Tenjin Station (Airport Line), Exit West 5/7
- Nishitetsu Train: Directly connected to Nishitetsu Fukuoka (Tenjin) Station (1-min walk)
- Highway Bus: Alight at 3F arrival area
- City Bus: Get off at "Tenjin Highway Bus Terminal-mae" stop, take escalator to 3F
- Car: Solaria Terminal parking is convenient (no parking discount for bus riders only)
Tickets are available at the ticket counter and machines inside Tenjin Highway Bus Terminal. Hours: 9:00–19:00.
For the Hakata/Tenjin-bound service, the meeting point is Nishitetsu Dazaifu Station. A Bus Announcer will be waiting near the bus stop at Dazaifu Station from 30 minutes before departure. There is no waiting line, so please gather near the bus stop about 10 minutes before departure.
Yes! A live Bus Announcer provides commentary in Japanese, sharing local insights and highlights along the route.
Absolutely! A multilingual audio guide is available in English, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese on your smartphone. Simply scan the QR code on the bus, and the GPS-linked guide will automatically introduce sightseeing spots.

- Earphones (not provided — if you don't have earphones, you can follow the on-screen guide)

*Audio will not play when the smartphone screen is off or while using other apps.
When the roof is open, you will be exposed to wind and sun. Dress for the season:
- Spring/Autumn: Bring a light jacket — wind can be strong at highway speeds
- Summer: Hat and sunscreen recommended. Stay hydrated
- Winter: Warm layers recommended (jacket, scarf, etc.)
- Kirameki Course: Temperatures drop after sunset — dress warmly
Wind can be strong during the ride, so please take care that hats and personal belongings do not blow away. We recommend hats with chin straps or clips.
Yes, you can bring luggage such as suitcases on board.
Yes, photography and videography are welcome on board. For safety, please keep your seatbelt fastened and do not extend your hands or body outside the bus.
Pets are not allowed on board. For service animals (guide dogs, hearing dogs, assistance dogs), please contact the Kyushu Highway Bus Reservation Center (092-734-2727, 8:00–19:00) when making your reservation.
On the same day, lost items are kept at Nishitetsu Tenjin Highway Bus Terminal until the last service.
After that, items are stored at the Hakata Bus Operations Office.

The open-air environment tends to reduce motion sickness. However, if you are prone to it, we recommend taking motion sickness medication before boarding.
